District Administrator Message
Welcome to Stanley-Boyd Area Schools’ facility planning webpage.
Thank you to all community members who provided valuable feedback in the referendum planning survey! The Board of Education passed a resolution for $23,000,000, which voters will be asked to decide on April 2, 2024. The referendum will include the following projects:
- Construct a gymnasium and accompanying locker rooms
- Relocate the district office
This website is designed to inform the community of the planning process and provide information to make an informed decision. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available. Please reach out to me or any Board of Education member with questions.
Jeff Koenig, on behalf of the Board of Education
History
The district is pursuing an April 2024 referendum to improve the learning environment and increase access to extracurricular activities. The district has struggled with limited gym space for many years. Overlapping sports seasons, youth recreation leagues, theater performances, and open gyms all compete for space.
The district has operated sustainably despite decreasing budgets and shrinking state aid. It has not pursued a referendum since 1998, nearly 25 years ago, and has one of the lowest mill rates in the state.
Project Descriptions
- Construct a new gymnasium and accompanying locker rooms - The district lacks gym space. Scheduling struggles lead to tight courts, limited playing times, and late-night practices. Constructing a new gymnasium and accompanying locker rooms would alleviate this concern, allowing the district to fulfill existing needs and accommodate additional community events, dances, banquets, and tournaments.
- Relocate the district office - The district office is currently in the center of the school and is the only office open year-round. Relocating the office near a building entrance would improve public accessibility and occupant safety by creating a secure entrance.
Below is a conceptual rendering of the proposed new addition. The final design may change based on variations in project scope and costs.

School Finance and Tax Impact
The district has been fiscally responsible regarding school spending. The 2022-2023 mill rate was $5.22 per $1,000 value. That’s well below surrounding school districts and the state average. The chart below shows Stanley-Boyd Area Schools’ mill rate compared to surrounding districts.
